A 42-year-old man is dead after he was crushed by a CN Rail car during his work shift Monday night.

The Canadian National Railway employee was working at the Ford plant in Oakville when the accident occurred at around 5 p.m.

Authorities say the man was helping connect two rail cars when he was pinned between both of them.

Emergency crews rushed the man to Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital where he underwent emergency surgery. He was then transported to Hamilton General Hospital late Monday but succumbed to his injuries shortly after arriving.

The Ministry of Labour is investigating the accident along with Transport Canada and Halton police.
